Such livestreams can convey seemingly greater transparency than short videos by allowing viewers to see robotic flaws and fumbles in real time. That may encourage viewers\u2019 belief in the robots\u2019 demonstrated capabilities, which in this case is limited to the Figure 03 robot\u2019s ability to handle packages in one specific warehouse-style setup.<\/p>\n<p>Even taking this particular demonstration at face value, what does this mean for Figure AI\u2019s broader vision? The company is one among many betting on AI-powered humanoid robots becoming general-purpose workers capable of performing various tasks normally done by humans. To gain widespread adoption, humanoid robots will need to prove as capable and cost-effective as either human workers or industrial robots, with more specialized forms suited for specific tasks.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"ars-video\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"F.03 Livestream - Day 8 | Over 167+ consecutive hours and 209K packages\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/luU57hMhkak?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This demonstration, focused on a repetitive task, does not show off such general-purpose capability involving a more diverse array of tasks or environments\u2014something that Figure has only hinted at in short video demonstrations so far.\u00a0Still, the company has already raised nearly $2 billion from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/figure-raises-675m-at-2-6b-valuation-and-signs-collaboration-agreement-with-openai-302074897.html\">Silicon Valley investors<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.figure.ai\/news\/series-c\">companies<\/a>, including Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel, Amazon, and OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>Figure\u2019s biggest real-world test to date involved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.figure.ai\/news\/production-at-bmw\">deploying its Figure 02 robots<\/a> to the BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina in 2025. Over an 11-month period, the previous version of Figure\u2019s humanoid robots focused on picking up sheet-metal parts from racks or bins and placing them on a welding fixture.<\/p>\n<p>The robots supposedly contributed to the production of 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles while working 10-hour shifts throughout a typical Monday to Friday workweek. \u201cFigure 02 handled the precise removal and positioning of sheet metal parts for the welding process\u2014a task that is particularly demanding in terms of speed and accuracy while also being physically exhausting,\u201d according to a BMW Group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.press.bmwgroup.com\/global\/article\/detail\/T0455864EN\/bmw-group-to-deploy-humanoid-robots-in-production-in-germany-for-the-first-time?language=en\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen whether BMW will also put the Figure 03 humanoid robot to work in more pilot deployments.
